What changes in the mountains

Air cools roughly 6 °C for every 1000 m of elevation. A mild 18 °C afternoon in Interlaken can be close to 6 °C at Schynige Platte and below freezing on the high summits, before wind. Cable-car stations are exposed and often 10–15 °C colder than the valley, so conditions can differ sharply from valley forecasts.
